These words were first spoken in 1933 on the first ever Galloway Pageant; of which seen hundreds of people from all across Galloway – from Stranraer to Dalbeattie, flock to Newton Stewart to see the Queen be crowned.

Since then, many voluntary committees have come and gone to keep the annual event alive. This year will be like no other, with a newly appointed eager committee behind it, we are confident that people of Galloway will have a great week!

What Happens at the Galloway Pageant?

Well the Galloway Pageant is not just an event that sees a Queen be crowned ‘Queen of Galloway’.

In the months leading to Pageant week, we plan to have many fundraisers, that will not only raise funds to host the main event, but will also provide something enjoyable for the community.

On pageant week, we kick off with the ‘Sashing of the Queen Elect’ on the Sunday at a local Public House garden.  Live music, fun and games, food and drink!

All kinds of events are held during the week (Mon – Fri) from fishing competitions to car treasure hunts, from teddy bears picnics to pet shows!

Saturday is the main day itself; Pageant Day.  A procession of fancy dress and decorated vehicles gather at one end of the town and parade across Newton Stewart and Minnigaff to Dashwood Square. Here, the Queen elect will be crowned the new Queen of Galloway. After which, the parade will be escorted to the ‘Afternoon fun in the field’ venue (venue to be confirmed for 2012) where live music plays, lunch is prepared (by means of BBQ and a beer tent!), bouncy castles, games and of course a main event in the arena.
